The lyrics of the song are in a Punjabi-Hindi mix, in which the pain of a lover is clearly visible. The opening lines "Akkhiyan ae paani-paani ho gayiyan, toote khwaban de gham vich kho gayiyan" (The eyes have become watery, lost in the sorrow of broken dreams) tell us that the eyes have become full of tears and the person has lost themselves in the grief of shattered dreams. Then, "Tenu ishq main kita zyada, tu tod gaya har vaada" (I loved you too much, you broke every promise) shows that they loved deeply, but the other person broke every promise and gave their heart to someone else. That is why the question repeatedly arises: "Bewaja, bewaja, dil mera kyon todreya" (For no reason, why did you break my heart?) and "Hathh mera kyon chhodreya" (Why did you leave my hand?) — meaning why was he left without any reason.

In the further lyrics, "Yaad teri jawani ae, jaan meri ae, jaanni ae" (Your memory is youthful, it is my life, it is known) expresses that the memories are fresh and as dear as life itself. Meanwhile, "Dard tera saha na jaave, lafzan vich ae kaha na jaave" (Your pain cannot be endured, it cannot be expressed in words) shows that the pain is so deep that it cannot be described. By saying "Padh le tu khamoshi meri, tere bin hun raha na jaave" (Read my silence, I can no longer live without you), the protagonist appeals to the other person to understand his silence. Finally, "Rahan vich chhadd gayi mera saath tu, reh gaya karda intezaar main" (You left my side on the way, I am left waiting) makes it clear that companionship was lost, but the wait still remains. In this way, this entire song presents the story of unrequited love, betrayal, and a broken heart in a very emotional and heartfelt style.
