Chhaap Tilak Lyrics – Harjot Kaur | The Wife

Chhaap Tilak Song Description

This song is "Chhaap Tilak" (छाप तिलक), which is a beautiful romantic and Sufi-inspired track from the film The Wife. As per the credits, this song has been sung by Harjot Kaur in her melodious voice, the music is composed by Utkarsh Dhotekar, and the lyrics are written by the famous poet and Sufi saint Amir Khusro. The film The Wife features Gurmeet Choudhary, Sayani Datta, and Divyansha Kaushik in lead roles, and this video song has been released by Zee Music Company on their official music label, making it easily accessible to the general audience.

The song begins with "O piya, baazi prem ki jo main kheli" (O beloved, the game of love that I played), where love is presented as a game, and the lover says that if she wins this game with her beloved, then her beloved will come to meet her. After this comes the main line, "Chhaap tilak sab chheeni re, mohse naina milaike" (You have taken away all my identity and mark, by just meeting your eyes with mine) — its direct meaning is that love has taken away my identity, my mark, my everything, because you simply made me yours by locking eyes with me. Here, "Mohse" means "from me", and "Chhaap tilak" is the traditional mark applied on the forehead, which signifies one's identity and existence, so having it taken away means complete surrender.

In the further lyrics, "Prem bhatti ka madwa pilaike, matwaali kar le mohse" (Make me drink the wine of love's furnace, make me intoxicated) conveys that love is like an intoxication, and whoever drinks it becomes crazy. Then, lines like "Gauri-gauri baiyan, hari-hari choodiyan, baiyan pakad le mohse" (Fair arms, green bangles, hold my arms) express a sweet longing to touch the beloved's beauty and arms. The repetition of "Naina, naina, naina" (Eyes, eyes, eyes) throughout the song makes it even more emotional and memorable. Utkarsh Dhotekar has arranged this classic kalam with light modern music, soft beats, and soulful singing, preserving the spirituality of the old lyrics while allowing new listeners to enjoy it as well. Overall, Chhaap Tilak is a melodious, soulful, and timeless song that keeps Amir Khusro's poetry alive in Harjot Kaur's voice, adding a deeper shade to the emotional moments of the film The Wife.
